How it works
The Six Star Medal was introduced by the Abbott World Marathon Majors in 2016 to honor the runners who complete the original six Major Marathons.
Sydney became the seventh Major in November 2024, but the Six Star medal remains in place for the original six. Abbott World Marathon Majors is evaluating two more candidates: Cape Town and Shanghai. Should these races pass their evaluations, the Nine Star medal will be introduced in addition to the Six Star medal.
Please note: the Six Star medal will be awarded for the original six only, but you can celebrate any combination of Majors you have achieved with our collectible journey range of coins and displays.
Collect your stars by creating your Runner Portal. This is where you will also be able to notify us when you are confirmed in the race that will earn you your sixth star.
Upon completion of your sixth Major you will be included in the Six Star Hall of Fame.
FAQs
Anyone who runs one of the original six Abbott World Marathon Majors is on their Six Star Journey, with the ultimate goal to run all six and earn the Six Star Medal. With Sydney joining the Majors in 2025, the Six Star medal will remain in place for the original six. There are two more candidate races, Cape Town and Shanghai, who are undergoing evaluation. If they are successful, the Nine Star medal will be introduced as the next milestone after six.
Create your Runner Portal today and any results from the Majors you have already run will be matched to you and stored in your Runner Portal.
There is no time limit within which you must complete all six races.
We award stars based on the results provided to us by each race, therefore if your time appears in the official results, your star will be awarded.
There are a few reasons a result may not match to you automatically, such as the use of a different name to enter the event to the name you have used to create your portal. You can search for results here and claim those stars which we can add to your portal for you.
Our system holds results for Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago and New York City dating back to 2006 and for Tokyo dating back to 2013.
Go to your portal and submit your proof of the result, such as an image of your finisher certificate or screenshot of your result, along with some proof of ID such as a passport or driver’s license. We will verify your information, create this result and add it to your portal.
This is exciting! Log in to your runner portal and use the Set For No.6 console there to inform our team.
Multiple completions of the same Major don’t earn you extra stars, but you can still store all of those results in your portal, and if you have completed all six more than once, you can generate different Six Star certificates for these completions in your runner portal.
You can view all these statistics in the Hall of Fame, as well as search for all the existing Six Star Finishers around the world.
Any AbbottWMM race completed on a virtual platform does not count as a star in our current Six Star program.
