The Abbott World Marathon Majors (AbbottWMM) is a series of seven of the largest and most renowned marathons in the world - Tokyo Marathon, Boston Marathon presented by Bank of America, TCS London Marathon, TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS, BMW BERLIN-MARATHON, Bank of America Chicago Marathon and TCS New York City Marathon.

Encompassing an annual series for elite runners and elite wheelchair athletes, AbbottWMM also applauds the achievements and passion of everyday champions from around the world. The AbbottWMM Star System is an online results hub that celebrates every runner on their journey through the Majors. Runners completing all six original Majors are awarded the Six Star medal.

With the addition of the Sydney Marathon in 2025, and the ongoing candidacies of the Sanlam Cape Town and Shanghai Marathons, AbbottWMM is also planning to add the Nine Star medal as the next milestone for the global community to aim at.

AbbottWMM also operates the AbbottWMM Marathon Tours & Travel Age Group World Rankings - the first ever global age group marathon ranking system. More than 375 races worldwide supply results to allow their runners to be ranked globally against their peers.

AbbottWMM sets the pace in the marathon industry, providing largest platform for the best athletes in the sport and offering the only truly global program for the world’s amateur athletes.

EACH OF THE SEVEN ABBOTTWMM MASS PARTICIPATION RACES DELIVERS SEVERAL UNIQUE BENEFITS TO RUNNERS:

  • An unparalleled experience – operational excellence at each race ensures a premium race-day journey for runners

  • A professional series – the best professional athletes in the world competing for points with the winner taking a share of the prize purse every year

  • Promotion of marathon running – AbbottWMM organizers aggressively champion anti-doping protocols and make many other efforts to move the sport forward.
