Episode highlights

“Massive kudos to runner/triathlete and now Olympic Triathlon Champion, Alex Yee and also Beth Potter - she used to be a 10,000 metre runner on the track, and she took a stunning bronze in the women’s race and then followed it up with an incredibly close fought race, where originally GB were given a Silver medal and then within a few minutes were downgraded to Bronze from a photo finish in a triathlon. ” - 8:04  - Martin Yelling

“It's what it takes to perform at this level. It's why I chose the marathon, because I knew I could never close in a 10,000 meters in sub 60 seconds like the rest of the world was.”  - 12:26 - Deena Kastor

“Noah Lyles had a phenomenal race to become the Olympic 100 meter champion. He won it by five one thousandths of a second, basically because he pushed his chest forward at just the right time.” - 14:47  - Martin Yelling

“The women's marathon will be a fantastic close to the Paris Olympic Games. But I am a little bit gutted about Charlotte Purdue. She’s a runner that Liz and I have followed and supported for years, and she's such a stayer, she sticks at it and she hammers away. And despite not qualifying for the Olympics a couple of times before, and being very close, Charlotte ran really well to qualify for Paris, and last weekend, she turned her ankle in one of the last runs of her build up and has had to withdraw.” - 29:12  - Martin Yelling

“It was scary to see the effects of the heat. So I felt confident that my strategy of going out almost a minute per mile slower than I normally would if the conditions were right.” - 38:59 - Deena Kastor

“It's riding that momentum when you can, there's other times that I was preparing to do something similar and it went wrong and you’ve just got to make the next best decision, like, okay, I had a hiccup in training today. I rolled my ankle, or whatever it is, and the next best decision is to take the day off and go to the physio and see if they can stretch it out or or give you a detailed plan on how to put it behind you. So it's always just making the next best choice.” - 42:49 - Deena Kastor
