Germany’s biggest road running organiser SCC EVENTS, who for example stages the Vattenfall BERLIN HALF MARATHON as well, has had another record year. In 2005 a total of 140,450 athletes have registered for the 20 events held in Berlin. It was the first time SCC EVENTS had more than 140,000 athletes within one year. Since organising the very first Berlin Cross Country Race back in 1964 SCC EVENTS has registered a total of 1,537,936 entries at 387 events.

An estimated 1.75 million spectators lined the streets during the events of 2005. Most of them naturally turned up end of September for the BERLIN-MARATHON. But also the half marathon had a record figure of about 150,000 spectators.

mini-MARATHON
The mini-MARATHON is the most spectacular pupils' race in Germany. This year a record number of up to about 10,000 kids and teenagers are expected to participate in this event. The team is in the foreground. Therefore the results are not timed individually. In the end the best school teams are honoured. Ten kids form one team. And as the course is identical with the last 4.2195 kilometres of the original marathon course each team is running the whole marathon distance: 42.195 kilometres. The added times can be compared with the best runners of the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON. The race on the marathon course with many spectators is a great experience for the children. When do pupils ever have the opportunity to run into the finish of one of the biggest and most spectacular road races in the world?

AVON RUNNING Berlin Women’s Race
Annually about 17,000 women and girls participate in the AVON RUNNING Berlin Women’s Run. The start and the finish of this afternoon event are located on the Straße des 17. Juni near the Brandenburg Gate. Mosts parts of the course lead through the Tiergarten park. The development of the AVON RUNNING Berlin Women’s Race, which is held every May, is outstanding. Just five years ago there were only half as many contestants as there are today, and in 1997 there were only 2,000 women and girls participating.
