CAREER NOTES:
Wilson Chebet has transitioned his half marathon prowess to the marathon with great success. In the half marathon his personal best is 59:15, recorded at the 2009 Fortis Rotterdam Half Marathon. He has run four sub-60 races and nine sub-61 half marathons. At the 2009 IAAF Half Marathon World Championships, he finished sixth in 1:00:59 to help Kenya win the team gold medal. In his first marathon in 2010, he finished runner-up and then followed up with two wins in 2011. In Rotterdam he set his personal best with a six second win over teammate Vincent Kipruto.
PERSONAL NOTES:
Nicknamed “Mr. Amsterdam” by his Dutch fans in the Netherlands, Chebet said he is known for his marathon wins and pacing duties in that country. He grew up in an athletic family and is the cousin of steeplechaser Moses Kiptanui and brother of marathoner Joseph Biwott. Chebet attended Lelan High School in Kaptalanwa. He has trained under several Kenyan
marathoners, but now is self coached and managed by Zane Branson. He is married to Caroline Chebet and the couple has a son named Kemboi who is four years old.
