CAREER NOTES:
Belainesh Gebre (Zemedkin) broke through the two and half hour barrier for the first time at the Bank of America Chicago Marathon in 2011.
She won her first marathon at Honolulu, but not without some controversy as there were some claims she given fluid refreshments by her boyfriend at places outside the official aid stations. Gebra has had solid success in her five career marathons, finishing fourth or higher in all of them.
Gebre returned to Houston in January 2012 for the Aramco Half-Marathon and in a close contest finished third in a personal best 1:08:51. She started off quickly at the Honda LA Marathon in March, but failed to finish. A month later she rebounded with a second place at the Nagano Marathon.
