CAREER NOTES:

Abreham Cherkos made his marathon debut in Amsterdam last year, just missing the podium but running a fast 2:07:29. He rode the tailwind at Boston in 2011 to chop 76 seconds from that time.

An exceptional junior runner, Cherkos won the gold medal in the 3,000m at the 2005 World Youth Championships, a silver medal in the 5,000m at the 2006 World Junior Championships, and a gold medal in the 5,000m at the 2008 World Junior Championships. He made the competitive 2008 Kenyan Olympic Track Team when he was only 19 years old and finished 5th in Beijing in the 5,000m.
