CAREER NOTES:

Atsede Baysa Tesema won a thrilling two-woman duel over Rita Jeptoo over the final stretch in the 2012 Bank of America Chicago Marathon. She prevailed by one second in 2:22:03 which was also the same margin by which she set a new PR.

She made a strong bid to win the 2010 Bank of America Marathon. Running a consistent pace in the 5:20 per mile range, she passed the halfway mark on target for a sub-2:20. Despite a series of slower miles in the second half, she held on to finish as runner-up to Liliya Shubokhova.

She is coming off a splendid 2:22:04 personal best and course record at the Paris Marathon in April, successfully defending her 2009 title there.

Baysa is the fourth fastest Ethiopian woman of all-time behind Berhane Adere, Askale Tafa and Gete Wami.

Paris was also the site of Baysa's win at the Semi-Marathon de Paris in March (1:11:05). Her half-marathon PR is 1:09:15 when she was eleventh at the 2007 IAAF World Road Running Championships. However, it should be noted she covered the first half of this year's Paris Marathon in 1:10:09.
