CAREER NOTES:

Tomo Morimoto is one of the rare Japanese women whose personal best in the marathon did not come in a Japanese race or a World Marathon Major. In fact it came in the rather unlikely country of Austria when she won the 2006 Vienna Marathon in 2:24:33.

She returned there in 2008, again breaking 2:30 but missed a victory by one place.

Morimoto has also competed in the Osaka International Ladies Marathon three times and a year ago placed eighth in London. Like many of her countrywomen she also contested the real,- Berlin Marathon and came in third in the 2010 race.

Her most recent results include a 1:13:31, eighth place, at last July's Sapporo Half-Marathon and a 16:36.82 for 5000 metres later in the month.
