CAREER NOTES:

Long a top 10,000m runner, Charles Kamathi made a big step in the marathon in April 2008. After a respectable 2:11:25 at Milan last December, Kamathi progressed all the way to 2:07:33 at Paris as the third man across the finish.

At the 2008 real,-Berlin Marathon Kamathi was one of the two men chasing Haile Gebrselassie through the finals miles. While he couldn't maintain the hard pace he still made the top three, finishing just 15 seconds off his PR with his second 2:07 marathon of the year.

Kamathi was the 10,000m gold medalist at the 2001 IAAF World Championships. He was seventh in 2003 and 12th in 2005.

In 1999 he stunned the track world when he won the prestigous Van Damme Memorial 10,000m in 26:51.49, the ninth fastest time in history. It was his first ever race in Europe.

Kamathi again broke 27 minutes at the 2004 Van Damme and has a personal best of 13:02.51 for 5000m.

In 2008 in addition to his Rotterdam performance, Kamathi was second at the EDP Meia-Maratona Internacional de Lisboa (1:00:45).
